A man has been charged with slipping into an 11-year-old girl’s New York City bedroom window and raping her.

Eighteen-year-old Julio Ayala is being held on $500,000 bail after his arraignment Sunday on rape and other charges.

ABC7 TV says Ayala’s lawyer is calling it a case of mistaken identity.

Police say the suspect got in while the girl slept in her second-floor Brooklyn bedroom Wednesday night. Police say after he assaulted her and fled, she cried for her parents, who called 911.

A court complaint says Ayala was carrying forged U.S. residency and Social Security cards when arrested Saturday at another building, where he’s accused of trespassing.

The suspect’s cousin Karen Ayala tells WABC she doesn’t think the construction worker is capable of what he’s accused of doing.
