Pasqualino (Pat) Russo, president of the Bay Ridge Lawyers Association, had good reason for beaming throughout the Dec. 19 Holiday Party at Dyker Beach Golf Course clubhouse.

The association, stronger than it has even been, represents New York City’s most vibrant “city within a city.”

Bay Ridge is home to one of the most vital shopping and dining districts in the city, rimmed by the largest continuous strip of waterfront-view homes that over look New York harbor. It follows that a vibrant legal community would be based in Bay Ridge. The association meets monthly for dinner, networking and speakers who bring expertise in various legal specialties.

But the holiday party was only networking and charity. Toys were collected to brighten the holiday season for the many children in the military families of Fort Hamilton, which is based in Bay Ridge but remains one of the historic treasures of U.S. military history. Many famous generals, including the Virginian Robert E. Lee, served at one time as commanders of Fort Hamilton.
