Nets lead league in flops: Wallace fined $5,000 for taking dive against Miami

The Brooklyn Nets have already made plenty of history during their initial month as our borough’s first major pro sports franchise in over 55 years.

Not all of it has been proud history, however.

Gerald Wallace this week joined fellow Nets forward Reggie Evans as the only players to be fined $5,000 for flopping under the NBA’s new rules regarding ”any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player.”

Wallace, who received a warning following a perceived flop against Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony during last month’s historic Barclays Center showdown with the East River rival Knicks, was tagged with his second violation after a collison with reigning NBA MVP LeBron James in last Saturday’s loss to defending world champion Miami.

Evans got slapped with two quick flopping fouls last month to become the first player in league history to receive the fine.

The Nets, who have been without starting center Brook Lopez for the past three games due to a mild foot sprain, will try to avert a season-high third consecutive defeat when they host the Golden State Warriors in Downtown Brooklyn on Friday night.

Brooklyn (11-6) will welcome Milwaukee to the Barclays Center on Sunday before completing a four-game homestand with another “Clash of the Boroughs” against the Atlantic Division-leading Knicks (13-4) on Tuesday night.
