State Education Commissioner John King Jr. is set to attend a forum in Albany on new Common Core learning reforms.

The meeting Thursday will be his first since an earlier series of planned appearances was cancelled after he was shouted down at a meeting in Poughkeepsie on Oct. 10.

Some parent and teacher groups have called for his resignation, saying he’s ignored their views as the state has adopted the national public education standards.

They say the demands on students and schools have been too extreme and done too quickly. The changes have included new curricula and tougher standardized tests linked to teacher evaluations.

King continues to have the backing of the Board of Regents, which has encountered similar opposition to efforts to improve instruction over the last 20 years.
