Facing More Charges, Espada Trial Begins Next Week in Brooklyn
CADMAN PLAZA EAST (AP) — A former New York state senator and his son are facing new charges in their federal corruption case in Downtown Brooklyn.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that a revised indictment accuses Pedro Espada Jr. and his son, Pedro G. Espada, with lying about their incomes and profits at their federally funded health care clinic in the Bronx.
The Espadas have already pleaded not guilty to charges they embezzled more than $500,000 from the clinic. Prosecutors say they used to money to pay for expensive meals, concerts and family birthday parties.
