Storm shut down vulnerable N line Thursday
'Open cut’ route serves Southern Brooklyn
Because of snowstorm conditions, MTA New York City Transit on Thursday temporarily suspended service on the southbound N line, also known as the Sea Beach Line, between 36th Street and Coney Island.
The service was suspended in order to allow snow blowers to remove accumulated snow and ice from the tracks and the third rail. The N line, which goes through an open cut between 59th Street and Coney Island, is particularly vulnerable to snow and ice.
Once the snow was cleared from the southbound track, the MTA said on Thursday afternoon, normal southbound service would resume. The snow blowers would then be used to clear snow from the northbound track, and service in that direction would be temporarily suspended.
