PSAL Playoffs: Brooklyn Collegiate comes through in final seconds
The Brooklyn Collegiate Lions trailed Wings Academy by one and with less than 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Wings had the ball. It looked like their season was over when the unthinkable happened: Wings Academy’s Desure Buie was called for travelling. That gave Collegiate 14.5 seconds to make a final play to save their season. And with their season on the line, the ball had to go into the hands of Davere Creighton.
“I was thinking that we got another chance to live,” Creighton said. “As a young player and a leader on this team, I had to buckle down and hit a big shot at the end.”
On the next play, point guard Cheyenne Nettleton was able to find Creighton at the left elbow and Creighton knocked down a jump shot, a season-saving shot. Collegiate went on to beat Wings Academy 56-55 at Hunter College on Sunday to advance to the semifinals round of the Public School Athletic League playoffs.
