Brooklyn’s Catholic parishes will celebrate long-awaited sainthood of two Popes
Roman Catholic parishes around the Diocese of Brooklyn will celebrate as two beloved popes are canonized as saints this weekend.
This Sunday, April 27th, His Holiness Pope Francis will canonize two of his predecessors: Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. The Church also celebrates its annual Divine Mercy Sunday this year in conjunction with the canonizations.
As of press time, parishes in Bensonhurst, Borough Park and Prospect Park West will hold liturgies and processions leading up to the canonization ceremony at the Vatican. Churches in Bayside, Floral Park and Long Island City in Queens will also be part of the celebration, as they are part of the Brooklyn Diocese.
