Kids and Education: Brooklyn News Wrap-up
With the end of the school year, kids and educators are making the news across Brooklyn. Here’s a wrap up of this week’s activities:
Sister Elizabeth A. Hill, one of Brooklyn’s most influential educators and former president of St. Joseph’s College has been named chair of Bishop Kearney High School. Sister Helen Kearney, President of the Sisters of St. Joseph, said in a statement, “Sister Elizabeth Hill . . . believes in the dignity of all persons and values developing their competencies, self-confidence and spiritual values to live fruitful and satisfying lives. We look forward to a wonderful partnership with Sister Elizabeth and the Board, with Dr. Margaret Minson, the new President of Kearney and Elizabeth Guglielmo, the new Principal.”
Hill was President of St. Joseph’s College from 1997 to June 2014. During her tenure, St Joseph’s enrollment and academic offerings increased while tuition remained among the lowest in the New York metropolitan area. In addition, she was responsible for securing the College’s largest federal grant in the College’s history. In 2014, Hill was the recipient of the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Long Island Association.
