Brooklyn Remembers 9/11
Fort Hamilton was the scene of a moving memorial ceremony Thursday to honor the nearly 3,000 people who perished in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center.
Tonight, Brooklynites will be marking the 9/11 anniversary with interfaith prayers on the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights and a commemoration on the 69th Street Pier in Bay Ridge.
The borough’s tributes to fellow New Yorkers who were lost on that terrible day began at the landmarked fort, where uniformed soldiers laid wreaths before the American flag, and a 21-gun salute was fired.
