Abbate teams up with P.S. 105 to help troops
Assemblyman Peter Abbate teamed up with students from P.S. 105 and members of the Dyker Heights Military Postage Fund to send care packages to troops serving in Nangarhar Province in Afghanistan. A fire at their military base destroyed many of their personal items, Abbate said.
“I am pleased that I was able to assist the caring P.S 105 family. Their expression of support for our troops and for this particular unit is heartwarming,” Abbate said.
The project came about after Alice Lee, assistant principal of P.S. 105, contacted Abbate upon learning that members of the base were devastated by the fire at their base. Students, families, teachers and administrators from P.S. 105 collected items to show their support and appreciation for the troops. The school received an outpouring of assistance from the community, which donated a variety of items, including reading materials, food, sports equipment, clothing, and personal items.
